Surprised is a two-folded feeling. It can be both: positive or negative. Some people like surprises, and some people don’t. Some people are masters at surprise parties and some people are masters at surprise backstabbing.
It’s easy to be surprised by a painting or a work of art. When your interpretation or what you find on the painting is different from what the artist originally intended. To me, the most surprising are Escher’s impossible constructions. You follow the stairs, hoping they will bring your eyes to the most interesting part of the drawing, but they never end. You are surprised at the genius of the artist.
But what do paintings look like when the artist is surprised?
